Sustainability is more than just a word to us
Sustainability and Freshlabels
Sustainability is an integral part of the Freshlabels mission. We are constantly searching for and unique products that are characterized by great design, high quality, fair price and are also respectful to the environment. Although not all of our brands are sustainable, we are working to make this happen in the future. But it doesn't end with products. We want to bring valuable information and inspiration and thus help all of us to better orient ourselves in the issue of sustainability. Last but not least, we came up with some changes and initiatives that can help with reducing our own footprint. We would be delighted if you decided to go on a more sustainable journey with us.
We've opened the first Freshlabels Sustainable Store with a entirely sustainable offer. We launched a new way of assessing sustainability on the basis of our questionnaire. We publish specific information about the production and sustainability for products from more than 40 brands.
We're preparing a sustainability questionnaire and sending it to all of our brands. We are launching a project to upcycle cardboard boxes. We came up with our own FL C 01 collection made locally from dead-stock fabrics. We've presented an interactive installation at Designblok on the topic of sustainability. We are starting to use plastic bags made of 100% recycled plastic waste.
We've replaced the bubble wrap with shredded old boxes and cartons.
We've signed the PET Free pledge and renounce bottled water.
We've introduced the Sustainable tag, which helps customers to find our sustainable products.
In cooperation with Kamila Bouda, we are working on the first rules of sustainability assessment.
In cooperation with the Swedish brand WeSC, we participate in lectures and discussions on CSR activities
Our debut in the sustainable product was the organic cotton collection from WeSC.
What do we do at Freshlabels for sustainability?
36 sustainable brands
We currently have 36 active brands in our portfolio that earned our Sustainable tag, which means that they meet more than half of the evaluation criteria. And there are several more brands that we have our eye on. At Freshlabels, you can dress yourself easily from head to toe in a sustainable way. We evaluate our existing brands on an ongoing basis, so some may gain the sustainable tag and some may lose it.
Comprehensive and transparent sustainability assessment
For almost the entire year of 2019, we focused on the creation, distribution and evaluation of a transparent sustainability questionnaire in order to find out and provide the most accurate information about the sustainable activities of the brands we offer. Thanks to this, we can evaluate all brands across the board on the basis of our fixed criteria concerning the brands’ entire production chain. In the detail of each product, you will learn how each brand stands, including a description of individual aspects of their sustainable production. We also state if the brand has not yet answered our questionnaire. More about the criteria and method of evaluation .
Recycled and upcycled packaging
As an online store, we have been dealing with the issue of packaging for a very long time now. For shipping, we use bags that are made out of 100% recycled plastic waste and are 100% recyclable. We pack larger shipments in paper boxes made out of recycled and recyclable cardboard. We are gradually improving all our new packaging so that it is possible to return non-compliant goods in them without the use of additional adhesive tape. Instead of bubble wrap, we use shredded old cartons and boxes to fill out the packages. In addition, in 2019, we launched a box upcycling system, where we send some goods in boxes that have been used before and would otherwise be discarded. We try to expand this system as much as possible.
Freshlabels Sustainable Store Prague
In the spring of 2020, we opened the long-awaited Freshlabels Sustainable Store in Prague's Letná, where you will find only sustainable products that have received our Sustainable tag. The interior by Lenka Míková Architects is created with the partial use of recycling and upcycling and the use of old and original elements. The intention was to preserve them, but to change their appearance and overall impression to a new, current position through a new context. Innovative materials such as Packwall boards from recycled and dry-pressed Tetra-Pak are used in the interior. We also solved flexibility and durability - the main exhibition furniture consists of lightweight modular constructions that can be easily rebuilt and transformed, or even adapted over time to a completely different space.
PET free pledge
In 2017, we signed the PET FREE pledge in cooperation with the Dopper foundation. In this way, we are committed to not buying any bottled water in PET bottles in all of our workplaces - warehouses, shops and offices. Tap water is great and in combination with the reusable bottles we have in our offer, we always have it available.
We are switching to LED
For several years now, we have been equipping all our new spaces with LED lighting, which consumes significantly less energy.
Inspiration and education
We want to inspire our friends and families to take the issue of sustainability as seriously as we do. We take part in various lectures and in 2019 we presented an interactive installation at Designblok, where we showed modern technologies and trends in sustainability in cooperation with "our" brands.
We recycle, recycle and recycle
In all our offices, warehouses and shops, we consistently recycle all our waste.
We do not support disposable bags
Instead of handing out disposable bags for free, we can offer you some alternatives: a sturdy recycled paper bag, our signature shopper made of organic cotton with a GOTS certificate or one of the unique upcycled sail bags that used to be a part of our Prague Backpack Store.
